Review: Rock the Beat by Michelle A Valentine

"5 stars

Love this series!!! Drummer of the Black Falcon, Trip, decides to do some investing at a track. He meets Holly, who has recently been dumped. I think Trip was written for me, he wascheeky, full of himself, flirty, dirty talking.

Thing? What are we in fifth grade? It's a cock, Holly. Call it what it is

I felt like I had a permanent grin for half the book. Even though by 10% I knew exactly where this story was going, I was kept entertained by the couples interactions and the comfort of the story.

Trip: I'd say in a week it so I'll have to keep my door bolted shut to keep you from sneaking in and having your way with me

I love this book but there are a few negatives I would like to address, the main one being it was too short AND it ended at 89%!!! Secondly, I absolutely adore Trip BUT where were the other band members? Lastly, apart from Trip being the drummer, the title Rock the Beat doesn't seem to make sense with the story.

If you like short and predictable, adirty talking rocker and a feel goodromance, this is a great one to pick up x"

Review: Cloak and Dagger by Nenia Campbell

"5 stars

I was really surprised by this one. To sum up the beginning of the story, Michael is an assassin and he is ordered to tie up some loose ends which ends up him kidnapping our heroine, Christina.

Michael started out as captors normally do, distant, uncaring, violent, a jerk. But of course we started to see the real Michael and I love him!!!

I came back...For you

This got my 5 stars because the storyline kept my interest throughout with all the action, I was gasping a few times at the turn of events and aww I love Michael.

I'm not human enough to want something I can't have?

If you like the type of book withcaptor/captive storyline, with plenty of action and violence and a slow building romance, I would give this book a go. I will definitely be reading the next book.

ABOUT GREED (Book 2 in the Seven Deadly Series):

Gather ‘round, love, because I want you. I want what you have, I want what you don’t have, I want more of what I already have. I want. But if you so much as ask for something in return, go ahead and walk away. Know if you want to play in my world, it’s every man for themselves and the weak become mine. BOOK SUMMARY:

Ryan Kendall is broken. He understands pain. He knows the hand of violence and the ache of loss. He knows what it means to fail those who need you. Being broken doesn’t stop him wanting the one thing he can’t have; Finlay Tanner. Her smile is sweet and her future bright. She’s the girl he grew up with, the girl he loves, the girl he protects from the world, and from himself.

At nineteen, Ryan leaves to join the Australian Army. After years of training he becomes an elite SAS soldier and deploys to the Afghanistan war. His patrol undertakes the most dangerous missions a soldier can face. But no matter how far he runs, or how hard he fights, his need for Finlay won’t let go.

Returning home after six years, one look is all it takes to know he can’t live without her. But sometimes love isn’t enough to heal what hurts. Sometimes people like him can’t be fixed, and sometimes people like Finlay deserve more than what’s left.

FIGHTING REDEMPTION

Excerpt

Later that morning after their workout and shower, Jake fell asleep on the couch. Feeling at a loss with nothing but time on his hands, Ryan wandered down the hall towards Fin’s room. She was sitting at a little study nook in the corner, laptop open with one foot resting on her chair. She was wearing a tank top and a little pair of shorts. Leaning up against the doorframe, he couldn’t tear his eyes away from those long, delectable legs.

As though sensing his presence, she turned in her chair. He forced his eyes upwards, catching a sexy flush fill her cheeks at his blatant perusal.

“Morning, Ryan.” She took off her black framed reading glasses and tossed them on the desk.

“Morning, Fin,” he replied.

Against his better judgement, Ryan pushed away from the door and walked farther into the room. Fin hadn’t changed at all and neither had his desire for her. His heart kicked over when she met his eyes. He knew everything he was feeling right now was written all over him, but he couldn’t seem to shut it off.

Her eyelids fluttered closed and she whispered, “Why now?”

Ryan took a deep breath. “I don’t know,” he replied honestly.

He shouldn’t still be feeling this way after so many years. Why was he doing this to her, and to himself? It was better for everyone if he stayed away like he was supposed to.

“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have come. I’ll go stay at the barracks.” He turned to leave.

“Ryan!” she called out. Scrambling out of the chair, she grabbed his arm as he was halfway out the door.

“Fin,” he warned, looking down at her hand pointedly.

She took a step closer and he breathed her in, her scent like jasmine on a hot summer’s day. He was surprised when he looked into her eyes and saw anger burning hotly in their depths.

“Six years, Ryan. Do you know how hurt I was, each day passing by and getting nothing—not even a note or an email? I didn’t just lose you. I lost my brother too. Both of you left me, and I was okay with that. I understood that this was what you needed to do, so I moved on. I built a life that doesn’t include you. That was what I had to do.” She paused and raised a shaky hand to cup his cheek. “I’d have given you my entire heart if you’d only asked, but it’s not yours now. It’s not yours.”

Ryan closed his eyes, agony for losing what was never his rose in his chest until he felt strangled by it. He placed his hand over hers, holding it there until she tugged it away.

“You’re right,” Fin told him. “You should stay on the barracks … but I don’t want you to. Damn you, Ryan,” she whispered fiercely. “I don’t want you to.”

Ryan used his bulk to crowd her against the wall until there was no room for her to move. Leaning one hand against the wall, he grabbed her hip with the other. Her breathing rose rapidly and he leaned in, ducking his head until their mouths hovered a mere breath apart.

“Why can’t I force myself to leave?” He rested his forehead against hers and closed his eyes. “I hurt too. For six years I fought every day not to think of you, and I lost, because every day you were all I could see. You were the best thing in my life—so sweet and innocent, and so goddamn tempting.” His hand strayed from her hip and slid down to grip her ass. He swallowed the groan. “I stayed away so you could move on.”

Review: Isn't She Lovey by Lauren Layne

"5 stars

Two opposite people. The heroine Stephanie dresses like a Goth and looks like a troubled girl. The hero Ethan comes from a rich family and looks like a homecoming king. As well as working on their summer project together, they are faking a relationship. These two had great chemistry and the back and forth banter is one of my favourite things when reading romance.

Can you please watch where you're pointing your teeth? The glare from your caps are hurting my eyes

Add in a no insta love and loads of sexual tension, this was just... lovely!There isn't many guys POV I like but I loved Ethan's, he felt like a typical guy.

You're a uterus away from turning into a complete chick

An epilogue would have been nice, even if its only a few weeks into the future. I would pick this up if you like predictable, drama-free and heart fluttering romance Loved it! X

Review: Making Faces by Amy Harmon

"4 stars or 5 stars (Can't decide)

This was very original and refreshingto the books I have been reading. Fern has harboured a crush on Ambrose since she was young but never thought she was good enough. It all changes when Ambrose comes back from the army.

Everybody who is somebody becomes nobody the moment they fail

I thought the first third of the book was a bit slow moving and there was times I wanted the story to go back to the preset rather than the flashbacks. This book definitely had 5 star moments in the last 30% and although there was no tears, I was both angry and sad with what happened.

You act like beauty is the only thing that makes us worthy of love

Amy Harmon has created somebeautiful beautiful characters, I loved how likeable Fern is and the beauty within her. I loved Bailey's strength. And I loved Ambrose, the broken ex-military.

This book had a deeper meaning behind it to not take anything in life for granted. I would recommend this if you like broken hero, beautiful characters, and a story that can tug at your heart. X

Blog Tour Review, Giveaway & Excerpt: Off Chance by Sawyer Bennett

Bestselling author Sawyer Bennett has released her latest New Adult Contemporary novel in the Off Series! We have an excerpt and giveaway below to help celebrate!

Release: October 21, 2013
Amazon | Barnes and Noble | Goodreads
He is seeking absolution.
Flynn Caldwell has a hero complex and it’s one of the reasons he joined the New York City Fire Department. He has spent his entire professional career trying to atone for that one person he failed to save. Because, if he can do that, then perhaps he can be worthy of love again.
She is seeking escape.
Rowan Page’s life is nothing short of a disaster. Always immersed in trouble, she has only herself to depend on. She’s determined to pull herself out of this mess and make something of her life, despite the hard years she has lived on the streets of New York.
Together, they have the chance to become complete.
Flynn and Rowan’s worlds exist miles apart, but when a chance meeting brings them together, neither of them can deny the instant pull that connects them to each other. What starts as a tiny spark eventually flares into a fire so hot, it refuses to be extinguished.
Both are willing to jump feet first into the flames to see where it takes them, despite the risk of being burned.

My Review:

"4 stars

I liked it but I didn't love it as much as the other books in the series.

The last book and the remaining single guy is Flynn. He is a firefighter and saves Rowan from a house fire. Being homeless and jobless he helps her out.

Flynn: Real men don't wear scarfs
Rowan: Fine. But don't complain when your neck gets cold
Flynn: Real men don't complain

I was expecting more of a story with Rowan's ex, but that fizzled out pretty quickly. What I loved the most about Off Chance was seeing all the characters together at the end and what an amazing epilogue!

You're heart might be hard, but mine's not

So this wasn't my personal favourite of the series (my fav is book 2). This was a perfect hero meets scared guarded heroine insta love type story. Which sadly isn't my favourite storyline.
But If you've read the other books, this one is not to be missed. I love this series and if you haven't started this series, I would give it a go x

EXCERPT FROM OFF CHANCE
After silently watching for a few minutes, I ask, “Okay, here’s a question for you... what’s that yellow line on the field?”
Fil doesn’t answer me so I poke her in the ribs. “Teach me, Yoda.”
She looks at me with frustration and then looks back at the TV. “That splits the field in half.”
“Liar,” I hear from the doorway and I turn to see Flynn there with a plate of pie in his hand.
Fil turns around and looks guilty for just a second, then her face splits into a grin. “Busted.”
“Wait... that line doesn’t split the field in half?” I ask, because that made damn good sense to me.
Chuckling, Flynn walks in and comes over to the couch. “Scoot down,” he says.
I try to move to the left, but Fil is ignoring me in favor of the football game. I jab her in the ribs again, she moves over a quarter of an inch, and I move along with her. It gives enough room for Flynn to jam his body in between the end of the couch and me, and the heat of his leg against mine sends my pulse dancing.
He takes the last bite of pie and sets the plate down on the coffee table. After he swallows, he says, “Okay... the yellow line represents the first down marker. You do understand the concept of downs, right?”
“Sort of,” I tell him. “Not really. And what’s the blue line?”
“That’s the line of scrimmage,” Flynn says and, before he can explain further, Fil lets out a curse. “I can’t believe he got sacked. The offensive line sucks.”
“What’s a sack?” I ask.
Flynn chuckles. “Slow down there, Speedy. One question at a time.”
He takes my hand and turns it palm up. “Here’s the easiest way to understand it.
See these two lines running parallel on your palm?”
I glance down and his fingertip traces two of my lifelines, which do indeed run
exactly parallel across my hand. The feel of his skin against mine causes me to shiver slightly and I’m mesmerized by the movement.
“Yeah,” I say and it feels like it comes out in a croak.
“So, this line right here is the line of scrimmage. It’s where the offensive line starts and the quarterback will be roughly in the middle of the line.” Flynn traces the line of scrimmage on my palm and then taps the area where the quarterback would stand.
“And this here,” he says, as he runs his finger across the other line. “This is the first down line. This is the distance, which is ten yards, that the offensive line has to get the ball to be able to advance further. They have four tries to get there... and those are called downs.”
I want to know more, not because I give a shit about football but because I want Flynn to keep holding my hand and tracking patterns on my skin. Which is decidedly not within the purview of a regular friendship.
“And a sack?” I remind him.
He pushes his index finger into my palm and holds it there. “When the quarterback starts the play at the line of scrimmage, he will most times step backward to get some distance from the defensive players that are coming toward him. If at any time they get him behind this line,” and here he pauses to drag his finger across my palm, “that is called a sack. Understand?”
“Yes,” I say but really, no. I don’t remember a damn thing he just told me and could care less. I am, though, trying to think of other questions to ask so he can teach me more palm football.

Review: Finding it by Cora Carmack

"4 stars

This book grew on me. The story starts off with Kelsey in Europe partying, getting drunk, having sex with random strangers. She meets Jackson Hunt and together they travel on a road trip, seeking new adventures.

What I liked about this book is theplaces and adventures that they went on. I felt like I was on my own little holiday.

Kelsey: I love when people love me

Kelsey started off very unlikeable, she was spoilt and spending her parents money. I thought she dragged the story down at the start. When she started her road trip with Hunt I felt the change in her.

My main problem I had was relationship wise I had major case of déjà vu. Two people. On the road. Hero being secretive. Sexual tension. Remind anyone of another book? For me personally, it did.

If I didn't know his secret, he never had to know mine

Overall I liked the story and I would recommend this if you love road trip adventure, new adult with a couple of twists along the way x"

Review: Long After by Cheryl McIntyre

"5 stars

My all time favourite storyline when the couple starts off with a love-haterelationship. Annie and Chase have been friends for years and now off to college.

What I loved the most about this book is Chase. He was cheeky, protective, laid back. The banter between the main characters was cute and funny.

You want to shove things up my ass?...I didn't know you were so kinky

Okay, so there was a few things that didn't go down well with me. A couple times I wanted the story to get back to the present sooner. And when it did I felt it ended too abruptly. Annie started off a strong heroine but slowly she dipped with her decision making.

I was willing to wait on you long before you had a reason to take your time. I think Im willing to wait long after

I will still give this 5 stars because I was getting serious butterflies in my stomach, I was swooning hard for Chase, the romance was dragged outjust how I like it, I loved the writing styleand just because I'm a hopeless romantic that loves friends-to-loversbooks. If you like the above, I would give this book a go x

Review: Touch me by Olivia Cunning

"
5 stars

(Photobucket took my collage and aren't giving it back! Grrrr!!)

Going into this book I thought Kellan was my favourite, but Colin he is all kinds of sweet and delicious.

You came already? Geez, all I did was fondle your tits a little

He meets Caitlyn at a sex club and being a Olivia Cunning book we all know where it leads.

I really liked Caitlyn, she's smart, owns her own business and dresses ordinarily. What I like most about these books is while the sex scenes are some of the steamiest ones I've read, I love the convervations they have with one another, the teasing and joking, getting to know each other and some a bit more serious talk.

There's always one thing in your life you wish you could undo more than any other. Your sole regret

I especially look forward to when the whole group get together and their chemistry is so effortless. What a little surpise at the end... to be continued*dun dun duh*

Overall, quick, smoking hot, smutty rocker book. Just how I like them. Loved!!!

Review: Worth the fight by Vi Keeland

"4 stars

Everything in Ella's life is repetitive and boring. Until Nico, an MMA fighter walks into her office. It's never going to be that simple though as they both have their own issues and past.

The Nico I know is a fighter. Isn't she worth the fight?

I admit I wasn't convinced by their relationship at first. The insta love was too soon for my liking but something about the two of them together felt right eventually.

Nico was all kinds of sexy and sweet. Who doesn't like a hard muscular hero that's a little bit broken inside?!

Elle, run while you have the chance. You can't fix me.

If I was to compare this book to other MMA books I'm afraid I've read some slightly better ones and I just wanted a bit more in the book. Having said that I did enjoy Nico and Elle's story.

I would recommend this if your looking for some fluffy sexy low-angst no-drama book. Enjoy x

The last remaining band member and I was excited to be finally getting Kellan's story.

Kellan has vowed to stay faithful to his girlfriend every though she died 5 years ago! A musical piano piece brings him to Dawn.

I wish your heart was free Kellan

Kellan really ticked me off . I love adamaged hero but 'come on! She been dead for 5 years!' It was just one night with Dawn so I didn't expect him to completely forget about Sara but I thought he was stuck in the past for way too long.

Kind of hard for me to compete with someone who can do no wrong

I liked the atmosphere Olivia Cunning has created; a stormy night, lightning and thunder, piano playing, 2 horny characters. What I was missing was all the other band members and more of a storyline.

quick sexy slap-him-in-the-headbook. X

Review: Finding Cinderella by Colleen Hoover

"5 stars

Like everyone else I wanted a Daniel book. We all knew who his secret girl was from the maintenance closet. I wasn't expecting was to fall in love with Daniel all over again. He and Six were absolutely perfect for each other and he was just as funny this time around.

If you could see me right now you'd be on your knees begging me to be your boyfriend

There was new characters introduced (Daniel's family) and they are just as funny as him. Although I wanted moreof them!

Daniel's dad: I'd hate for Six to find out about his lengthy showers every night

At times I wish we got Six's POV and maybe got introduced to her family.*Winks* Maybe a novella in Six's POV?!!

The shocker at the end... I had an'ermm' moment because I was hoping it didn't take that storyline. Butfabulous writing by one of my favourite authors. I would recommend this for all romance lovers x

Review: Avoiding Commitment by K A Linde

These two gave me a seriousheadache.

A phone call brings Lexi back into Jack's life. They have a lot of history and have hurt a few people along the way. The present situation is no different as Jack is now on a verge of being engaged to his girlfriend, Bekah.

I've always been the kind of person who believed that I'd never find someone I wanted to commit to

I think there's something going on to make Jack this way and maybe when or if I find out I might like him more.

He hurts you. He drags you down.

I felt like these two were as bad as each other and actually deserve each other.Ramsey was alright but I don't think he is the man for Lexi either.

love love love the ending!!! Exactly how I wanted it to end!!! If you likeangst complicated piss-u-offromance. I would try this x

Review: Confessions of an Alli Cat by Courtney Cole

"4 stars

(I couldn't find a good casting for Alli and other images would be *ahem* inappropriate so have to make do with just the lovely Shade hmmm x)

With the help of her BFF, newly divorced Alli gets a youngescort/gigolo. What she wasn't expecting was for Shade to be connected to her through other people in her life.

This was a sarcastic LOL book. Some parts were completely humiliating for Alli and I felt myself going red faced if I ever was to be in those situations.

There are times, like right now, when I can totally understand why hamsters eat their young

Alli was a funny crazy likeable heroine and Shade was delicious and very mature for his age.

when I'm finished with you, you're going to have a hard time remembering your own name

I would have loved to give this a 5 star but I was not happy by the ending at all! I guess it was for the best but it was not suppose to end that way. I would recommend this if you want to pick up aquick over-the-top crazy yet sexybook x"

My Review:

Wowza... This final book was beyond amazing, an epic conclusion to afabulous series.

The book continues on Ellie-Javier-Camden's journey in seeking revenge and rescuing characters. I was on anadrenaline high from start to finish. There was plenty of violence, a few shockers and yes at 90% My. Heart. Freaking. Stopped!!!(No joke!)

On the romance side, I've been Team Javier for most of the series and in this book he is his usual charming self.
I could have sworn it was just a few days ago that I last made you scream

Until this book. Camden absolutelywon me over with his dedication to Ellie (sorry Javier) #TeamCamden *SWOOoooN*

I don't want to love you

There was the inevitable sexy time, angst, sexual tension and some heart clutching sweet moments.

You own my heart. Please let me have yours

I cannot express in words just how much I love this series. It was a breath of fresh air to the usual romance I read. Full of action, violence, tension, with a heart pounding romance. If you've not started this series I would recommend it whole heartedly x

Kagan Owens has a secret. One she thought she'd escaped by leaving New York, but when her past follows her to her temporary new life, Kagan lets a teeny lie slip. And now the town's biggest playboy and flirt, Shane Sullivan, has become her pretend boyfriend--just until she's ready to return to NYC. But the handsome, fun-loving Shane makes it tough to determine where their friendly agreement begins and ends...

Shane has no intention of settling down--in fact, his job depends on it, and nothing's more important than his work. Still, he can't help but agree to Kagan's scheme, if only to find out more about the mysterious beauty. But when every touch from her sets his heart and body on fire, he realizes playing an accidental boyfriend may be more than he bargained for--and more than he can give.

About the author:

Robin Bielman lives in Southern California with her high school sweetheart husband, two sons, and crazy-cute miniLabradoodle, Harry (named after Harry Dresden from Jim Butcher's Dresden Files books). When not attached to her laptop, she can almost always be found with her nose in a book. She also likes to run, hike, and dip her toes in the ocean. Filled with wanderlust, she longs to visit many different places and fulfill her curiosity. She wouldn’t mind indulging her sweet tooth in every location either. She’s a lover of Post-it notes, cable television shows and café mochas. Writing is a dream come true, and she still pinches herself to be sure it’s real.

Her other novels include Kissing the Maid of Honor, Worth the Risk, Risky Surrender and Yours At Midnight. She loves to connect with readers. Learn more and sign up for her newsletter on her website at http://robinbielman.com. She can also be found online here:
