Release day Blitz: Hard as you Can by Laura Kaye

About HARD AS YOU CAN:
Five dishonored soldiers.
Former Special Forces.
One last mission.
These are the men of Hard Ink.

Ever since hard-bodied, drop-dead-charming Shane McCallan strolled into the dance club where Crystal Dean works, he's shown a knack for getting beneath her defenses. For her little sister's sake, Crystal can't get too close. Until her job and Shane's mission intersect, and he reveals talents that go deeper than she could have guessed. Shane would never turn his back on a friend in need, especially a former Special Forces teammate running a dangerous, off-the-books operation. Nor can he walk away from Crystal. The gorgeous waitress is hiding secrets she doesn't want him to uncover. Too bad. He's exactly the man she needs to protect her sister, her life, and her heart. All he has to do is convince her that when something feels this good, you hold on as hard as you can--and never let go.

Q&A WITH LAURA KAYE
HARD AS YOU CAN is your second book in the “Hard Ink” series (after USA Today bestseller, HARD AS IT GETS). What can readers look forward to?

Readers can look forward to tons of sexy alpha male goodness, awesome bromance between the Hard Ink men, more antics from the Hard Ink puppy, and another great love story between Shane and Crystal. But readers should also be ready for a book that is darker, more intense, and more emotional. This book pushed me to emotional places that were tough as a writer, and might be tough for readers, too. But I think that just makes the payoff at the end so much sweeter!

Describe Shane and Crystal. What are their best traits? What are their weaknesses?

Shane and Crystal are such an amazing couple to me. They’re each exactly what the other needs. Shane’s best traits are his protectiveness, his fundamental kindness, and his soul-deep loyalty (his southern accent and humor are also right up there!). His biggest weakness for sure is a tragedy from the past for which he blames himself—and it’s something that continues to motivate him in Hard As You Can. Crystal’s best traits are her courage, protectiveness, and selflessness—she’s willing to do anything to keep her younger sister safe. Her biggest weakness is also that selflessness, because the sacrifices she’s required to make are getting bigger and bigger and bigger.

If you could describe your book in a 140 character tweet, what would it be?

When a woman in trouble assists an ex-soldier's covert mission to regain his team's stolen honor, he finds a new mission to save her, too

What are you most excited about with this second book release?

I’m really excited to take readers deeper into these awesome characters and into the mystery behind the Hard Ink team’s ambush and discharge!

What books are you reading right now?

I’m almost done with Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander (yes, I’m very late to the party but OMG JAMIE FRASER!!!). And I’ve recently devoured and loved Juliana Stone’s Offsides and Shelly Thacker’s time-travel historical romance, Forever His.

What can fans of your “Hard Ink” series look forward to next?

There will be two more Hard Ink books in 2014!

Hard to Hold on To – August 2014
Hard to Come By – November 2014

My casting for Crystal:

My casting for Shane:

2/25 Blog Blitz Excerpt Post

It’s release day! And I’m thrilled to share Hard As You Can, the second book in the Hard Ink series, with all of you here today! Hard As You Can follows the surviving members of a disgraced Army Special Forces team as they fight to regain their stolen honor, and finds their investigation crossing paths with a waitress willing to do whatever it takes to stay alive and protect her younger sister. For Shane McCallan, saving Crystal Dean is a mission he refuses to turn down.

Today, I’m excited to share Shane and Crystal’s first kiss! Don’t you love first kiss scenes? Gah! I so do. *grins* Here we go:

“Tell me not to,” Shane said, his voice a raw scrape.

“I can’t,” Crystal whispered in a shaky voice. “I don’t want to.”

Shane’s body took over then, all urgent need and basic instinct. The rest of the world be damned. He pulled her in and kissed her, his lips devouring, his tongue exploring deep. Nothing held back. Nothing denied. Not even as her lips reawakened the sting from the cut on his lip. Totally worth it.

Crystal’s arms came up around him. She trembled against him, and Shane wasn’t sure if it was caused by adrenaline or fear. Unable to tolerate the thought that she might feel forced, he eased off.

She moaned and held him tighter, like his retreat had made something snap within her. Their kisses deepened, and her body moved against his, sinuously, maddeningly, desperately.

They tasted one another again and again, giving in to the heat that had sparked between them from the moment Crystal had collided with him at Confessions. Little nips and bites of lips and teeth warred with long, sensual strokes of tongue that stole his breath and made him instantly hard. The sting in his lip, the throb of his GSW, the aches from Nick’s asskicking, every bit of it faded away—no, her touch made it all go away.

The few times they’d spoken, Crystal had most often been guarded, tentative, fearful. Just as she’d been when he first kissed her. But, now, she was revealing a passionate woman who could be fearless, giving and receiving openly and without hesitation. Christ, the thought that this fierceness was the real Crystal slayed him because it meant she was burying and denying her true self, not because she wanted to, but because she had to.

No, because someone forced her to.

The thought reminded him of the bruises on her arm. Shane had known this woman for three days, and twice in that time she’d been hurt by another man. And both as a consequence for things Shane had done.

A crack of thunder echoed from the heavens, making Crystal jump and gasp into his mouth.
“I’ve got you,” he rasped around a kiss.

Part of him wanted to say more, to tell her he had her and he’d keep her safe. But he couldn’t make himself give up her heat, her sweetness, her obvious hunger—for him.

So he made her a silent promise instead.

Never again, Crystal. He’ll never hurt you again. Not on my watch.

Because Shane McCallan had made a mistake like that once. And, as bad as his sister’s disappearance had been, something’s happening to Crystal would actually be worse because Shane knew it was coming. The one break he’d ever given himself over Molly was that he’d had no way to know she’d be abducted. Didn’t excuse the role he played in allowing it to happen, but he couldn’t have known. But with Crystal, while he might not know when or how this Bruno asshole would strike out to do the ultimate damage, it was all but a done deal at this point. Always was with guys like him. And Shane would go to the grave before he let it happen, before he failed another female for whom he cared.

Because he did care. Made no damn sense given how long he’d known her. And the timing was beyond piss-poor. But there it was all the same.

So that’s Shane and Crystal starting to give in to what they feel for one another – I hope you enjoyed! Did you have a favorite line? Thanks for reading!
~Laura

Meet Liv Michaels
It may have been seven years, but I’d know him anywhere.  Sure, he’s grown, filled out in all the right places, but his captivating blue eyes and cocky grin are exactly the way I remember.  Even though I’d much rather forget.
Liv Michaels is almost there.  She’s smart, determined and weeks away from landing the job she’s dreamed about for years.  Time healed old wounds, even her broken heart from the devastation of being crushed by her first love.
Meet Vince Stone
Women love a fighter, especially a good one.  Lucky for me, I’m damn good.  But there’s one woman that isn’t interested.  Not again, anyway.
Vince ‘The Invincible’ Stone is every woman’s fantasy…strong, sexy, confident and completely in control.  Growing up surrounded by chaos, he’s learned never to get too attached. Love will drag you down.  He adores women, treats them well, puts their own needs before his own…for the night anyway.  With the biggest fight of his life coming up, his focus should be on training.
When fate brings Vince & Liv back together again, there’s no denying the chemistry is still there.  But can Vince erase the old scars their past left behind? Or will Liv hurt him instead?

Second chance romance for Vince and Liv. After 7 years apart, Liv is a newspaper reporter and Vince has one of his biggest fight coming up.

I prefer stronger heroines so I thought Liv was a bit of a pushover but then I grew to love her and what she did for Vince...aww!!! The story felt predictable at first but from 40% I loved where the story was heading.

This was a really good sequel, a great plot, hot fighter, sexy and romantic. Perfect combination for my reading taste.

Worth the Chance (MMA Fighter, #2)Worth the Chance by Vi Keeland
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

4.5--Vince "The Invincible" Stone--Stars!!!

Second chance romance.  Childhood friends to lovers.  MMA fighters.

Bring it!

Vinny and Liv met when they were in high school.  Liv tutored the troubled Vinny.  Vinny was larger than life.  He spent more time in trouble than not.  But Liv was drawn to him.  Liv was full of innocence and good.  Something Vinny didn't want to ruin.  So he walked away from Liv and never looked back.

Seven years later and Vinny is an MMA fighter and Liv is an intern/writer for the Daily Sun Times.  She's battling for a full position at the paper, her dream job.  She's been handed a story that will throw Vinny back into her life.

Vinny can't believe Liv is back in his life.  It's as if the last seven years never even existed.  Vinny broke Liv's heart when he left. But he makes it known what he wants now.  And what he wants is Liv.

"I want you in my bed.  Underneath me, on top of me, bent over....fuck, we're going to invent new ways for me to have you."

Vinny had the perfect mix of alpha and sweet.  He was demanding in what he wanted from Liv.

"All you got do is say no, Liv.  But, I'm giving you fair warning...if you don't tell me no, I'm going to take you.  And then you're mine to do with as I please."

But at the same time, he had this sweet side that just made you swoon.

I loved Vinny and Liv together.  I loved getting flashbacks in to their past and how they met and fell in love...in fact, a few more past scenes would have been nice.

Things are great for Vinny and Liv, until Liv gets asked to expose a story that could crush Vinny and everything he's believed about his past.  This is make it or break it for Liv...if she breaks this story, she will land the job.  But will it ruin Vinny in the process?

This cannot end good.

Bless Liv's heart she tries to protect Vinny.  She doesn't want to hurt him by exposing the truth.  Torn between the job she's always dreamed of and the man she's falling in love with more and more each day.

I could see how it was all going to play out and yet there was nothing I could do to stop it.

Every day that went by that Liv didn't tell Vinny I got more and more nervous.

Summer.....

I knew I wasn't going to like you.

The last 15% of the book I was glued to the story.  Like with Worth the Fight this was pretty low angst.

And the ending....I absolutely LOVED the ending....what Liv did for Vinny!

Love Love LOVED Vinny and Liv!

"I want you, Liv.  I wanted you seven years ago.  Want you even more now.  So much that I can't think about anything else.  Need you."

PS--This books was

If you loved Worth the Fight, I think you'll definitely love this one.

After being alone for so long, caveman Ehd finally finds a mate, Beh. The story was sweet but in my opinion nothing much happened except day to day life of living in a cave.

Ehd was soo lovely. It was soo cute getting his POV but it got a bit repetitive. I wish we got Beh's POV to understand the story fully. I guess we have to wait for her book *sighs*

Anyone worried to pick this up, you shouldn't be. It has limited dialogue but it wasnt a huge problem, the story was very original, little drama and no angst. That ending though... I personally dont like endings like that.

No Turning Back (Kathleen Turner, #1)No Turning Back by Tiffany Snow
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 stars

What a nice change from the usual romance I read. Kathleen finds herself in a situation involving dead bodies, conspiracies, fraud, her gorgeous boss Blane and the mysterious Kade.

I like Kathleen but I'm a bit worried her personality is going to get her in more trouble.

Blane and Kade. Which team am I on? I cant decide yet. Both may well be heading on to my book boyfriend list.

For me, this had the perfect mixture of suspense, romance and sex. I liked the pace and the writing style and Im excited to read more of the series.

Ah my Braden is in it so of course this deserves the full 5 stars. This novella is like an extended epilogue for Joss and Braden.

I thought I would be annoyed with Joss, but actually it was Braden's turn to be insecure. I loved how in such a short book I manage to feel happy, grin like an idiot, angsty and on the verge of crying.

A quick sexy novella that you wouldnt want to miss if you are a Braden fan *sighhhh*

Manwhore Drew tells his story about how he done the unthinkable and fell in love with Kate. Does he eventually win his girl?

Drew was a pig, he was disgusting and crude... no surprise I LOVED HIM!!! Ive never ever read a male POV like this and it was really refreshing.

I didnt find it as funny as I thought I would, maybe because I already seen some of the funny quotes on GR. But a perfect combination of LOL moments, banter, steam and loveable characters. A book I would be happy to recommend and read again x

Lily's new neighbour, Jay is mysterious. But she cant seem to stay away. Why is he so secretive? How did he get the scars?

I found the diaogue a bit dull. There was no spark between Jay and Lily. I cant say Im happy neither sad about the cliffy ending.

I found the start quite promising but it went downhill from then. The twists and turns didnt get me excited. I doubt I will be catching up with book 2.

Thanks to the BR Fran...I probably would have DNF without ya x

Jaxon and Sara grew up together, best friends turn lovers. But doubts in Sara's mind start affecting their relationship.

Jaxon was trying so hard and so patient with Sara. There was never any doubts his feelings for her. Sara though, I felt by the end of part 1 she was really starting to get on my nerves. However, she did get better.

This was quite fast moving, I was gripped and needed to know what happens next. A first love/second chance romance with good angst and tension. I really enjoyed this.

Taste of Torment (Deep In Your Veins, #3)Taste of Torment by Suzanne Wright
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I hate sequels that adds a lot of unnecessary issues between the couple so I was glad the story focused on strengthening Jared and Sam's bond and a few problems outside their relationship.

I cant risk you. Do you understand that?

Jared was as swoony as ever and Sam was still a great heroine. The moments they shared weren't enough but amazing nonetheless.

Book 1 was my favourite but the finale, how I had a fat cheesy grin at the end, Jared ♥♥♥ and just some of the funny banter, I think this book deserves 5 stars. A great series with a vampire/x-men type romance with a good mix of steam and action.

Best Kind of Broken (Finding Fate, #1)Best Kind of Broken by Chelsea Fine
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

3 stars

Levi and Pixie have a history together, both a bit broken and hurting. Working at the same hotel, they are forced to live together.

I felt the writing style was trying too hard to be funny and quirky. It ended up feeling forced to me. They spent the majority of the time not talking and staring at each other. It improved slightly around 50%.

If you're looking for broken characters YA/NAish book with sexual tension, I would give it a go.

Ends at 93%

Matt gets called in to help drive his best friends little sister home from college. Lucy has other plans, knowing he wont make a move for his friends sister, she tells a little lie.

I wasnt convinced by Matt the Alpha-Dom. Maybe I was spoilt by Daniel, I dunno I didnt feel I understood him well. Lucy was a kickass heroine though.

I love this series but I felt the sexy time in this book outweighed the storyline. But I cant deny Im a sucker for cheesy endings. Worth a read if you are looking for a quick sexy book x

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Bree is new in town looking for some peace and rents out a cabin. She becomes friends with the tortured Archer who cannot speak.

This book definitely falls under: "its not the book, its me". I found the story quite slow moving for my personal taste and I couldn't connect with Bree to begin with. Archer held the story together for me and his story is truly heartbreaking.

The story picks up around 40% and I dont have much negative or positive to say about it except I really hate Travis. If you're looking for heart wrenching story with a broken hero and a few shockers, give this a go.

I will forever love KA and her mountain men. But I just didnt get the relationship with Deck and Emme. Deck is Emme's ex-best friend's ex-boyfriend. After 9 years apart they bump into each other again.

Their relationship felt like it was on fast forward as soon as they reconnected. Maybe my taste has changed, I found myself a bit bored with the story, the dialogue and the characters. Although I felt it improved slightly after the halfway mark.

If you are a huge KA fan looking for a hunky alpha mountain man, I would still give this a go. But for me, Deck didnt live up to Max and Tate from earlier books x
